This is the era of 5G and there’s no denying that. Even though we Indians are yet to experience 5G in any form, other countries like China and USA are making progress at a rapid pace. In April 5G smartphones sold in China accounted for 40% of the market share. This is a huge number considering how the world is going through rough times.
Owing to this success smartphone SoC manufacturers are designing new chipsets with 5G in mind. Mediatek already has a number of 5G chipsets from mid-to-upper-lineup in the Dimensity Series. Now Qualcomm wants a piece of the pie and is working on 5G capable Snapdragon 6-Series chipset.

According to leaks, this chipset will be aimed at entry-level smartphones. It will have an eight-core system with two cores clocked at 2.25 GHz and six power-efficient cores running at a speed of 1.8 GHz. The GPU will be Adreno 615. The chipset is expected to reach customers by the second half of 2020.
This could lead to 5G becoming more affordable and hence will reach more smartphone users. As of now, 5G connectivity is only seen in Flagship smartphones above $350. The other chipsets that could make 5G much more affordable are MT6853 5G from Mediatek, Kirin 720 5G from Huawei and Exynos 880 5Gfrom Samsung. These chipsets are to be announced soon by their respective makers.
