Qualcomm last year drew the curtains off its flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset at the Snapdragon Technology Summit. The chipset will be seen in most of the forthcoming high-end devices and will be leading the company in 2018. Qualcomm’s mid-range and budget-friendly line-up for 2018 have been leaked. The leaks on Webibo gave us a detailed report of what these chipsets have in store in terms of CPU, GPU, ISP/camera, modem etc.
Snapdragon 670, 640 and 460 chipset’s work on Qualcomm’s own Kryo cores, which are derivative versions of ARM’s Cortex cores.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC will be replacing the current gen Snapdragon 450 in the budget segment phones. It features Kryo 360 Silver CPUs which are a derivative of ARM’s Cortex-A55 microarchitecture. The new SoC is suggested to be using an Octa-core setup with dual Quad-core clusters clocked at 1.8GHz and 1.4GHz. The chipset will be using an Adreno 605 GPU along with a X12 LTE modem. The chipset will also support camera sensors up to 21MP.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 640 chipset which will replace Snapdragon 630 consists of two Kryo 360 Gold CPUs clocked at 2GHz and six Kryo 385 Silver CPUs clocked at 1.55GHz. It comes with an Adreno 610 graphics processing unit and a Snapdragon XZ12 LTE modem capable of providing 600Mbps down and 150Mbps up. The 640 will be made on the 10 nm process and features 1 MB of system cache. The chip will also have same Image Signal Processor as the Snapdragon 670 and allow for a single 26 MP or dual 13 MP camera setup.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, successor to Snapdragon 660 chipset will feature 4xKryo 360 Gold cores, clocked at 2.0GHz along with 4xKryo 385 Silver clocked at 1.60GHz. The processor will come with Adreno 620 GPU for graphics performance. Capable of supporting a 26MP sensor or two 13MP sensors, thanks to Dual 14-bit Spectra 260 ISP. Integration with Snapdragon X16 LTE modem that is also expected that can support maximum download and upload speeds of 1Gbps and 150Mbps respectively.
A Quick look at what the three chipsets offer and might unveil in February at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018.
