The popular shopping website Amazon is gearing up to start a new service in the market of India as the company has officially confirmed to launch satellite internet services. The company will be offering pocket-friendly broadband internet services to rural areas of the country. It is also said that Amazon has already started to apply for the necessary licenses from the Government of the country.
It is also revealed that the upcoming Amazon satellite internet services are called ‘Project Kuiper’. A top most executive of Amazon has also confirmed that the company has major plans to launch satellite internet services in India and the company has long-term initiatives planned for India that will include satellite communication.
The upcoming Amazon Project Kuiper will use a constellation of 3236 satellites in the lower earth orbit and that will be offering internet connectivity to remote areas. It is also reported that the company has already applied for the needful approvals for its satellite communications services with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (In-Space) and Amazon is also believed to apply for a GMPCS (Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite) license with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
