The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a new numbering scheme, and that will be replacing the current number series. The authorities has announced the new 160xxxxxxx number series and the same is allocated exclusively for service and transactional voice calls.
It is actually replacing the current 140xx series, and the new number series will be used by genuine entities to make service and transactional calls. It is worth mentioning that the 140xx series will continue to be available for the usage of promotional calls.
The authority is trying to make a clear differentiation between the promotional call numbers with the new 160xxx series. The newly announced 160xxx series will be available for use by all telecom service providers (TSP), and it is also important to verify the authenticity of each entity before assigning a number from 160 series.
